Mobility Matters Welcomes Segways to the ACT
Mobility Matters welcomes the ACT Government's initiative to permit Segways in the ACT.
"Mobility Matters has been a leader in providing mobility solutions for almost 40 years in the ACT", said the General Manager of Mobility Matters, Cawley Hennings.
"We provide a wide range of products and solutions to those in our community living with disabilities, but we also provide products that allow people to enjoy life here in the ACT much more actively than perhaps they otherwise could - lifestyle products, you could say."
Segways are self-balancing personal transporters with two wheels. They use computers, gyroscopic sensors and electric motors which can keep them upright.
"Segways will open up a new way to experience so much of Canberra and its surrounds here in the Territory", Mr Hennings said, "It makes so much sense that we can use them here."
Mobility Matters plans to both sell and hire Segways and is in the process of ensuring that various resources are available to riders to ensure they are well-informed of the rules, as well as how to safely operate their Segway.
"Safety is paramount. Although Segway users will be regarded more like pedestrians, they will be responsible for knowing and complying with the rules and exercising care towards others whilst using their Segway, just like the driver of a motor vehicle", said Mr Hennings.
There are a number of types of Segway with two of the most popular models, the i2SE which is more suited to road-like surfaces and the and x2SE which can handle some off-road terrains, will be among the early products to become available. The exciting Ninebot by Segway range is expected to follow.
"Segways carry a price tag comparable, possibly a little less than a quality push bike. That said, they are a great lifestyle product we believe will be popular here in the ACT'.
Mobility Matters is currently taking pre-orders and expects to have its first Segways in July 2017. Updates will the posted on the website at www.mobilitymatters.com.au as well as via social media:
Mobility Matters is located at 21 – 23 Townsville Street in Fyshwick and has two other stores in Bega and Batemans Bay. Segways will only be available in our Fyshwick store due to regulatory reasons.
